Happy Birthday - Gaston Glock

On July 19, 2020 Gaston Glock turned 91 years old.

Of course, he's famous for the Glock handgun that he first created in the 1980s.

The thing is, originally, Gaston Glock was an engineer who made hinges and brass fittings. When he was 50 years old, he found out that the Austrian Army was looking for a new handgun and was taking bids. Glock decided to throw his hat in the ring and the rest is history.

Currently, about 65% of federal and state law enforcement agencies carry a Glock. And, I own one myself. But, are Glocks the best handguns ever like all the "fanboys" say?
Well, they are certainly reliable, and, for people who come to me and quickly want an answer about what gun they should buy, I tell them a Glock 19 or Sig P320 X-Compact.

However... I am not one who's drunk on the "Glock Kool-Aid."  Yes, they are great guns, but, there are a ton of quality guns these days and it would be foolish to say, "It's Glock or nothing."

• Sig Sauer
• A quality 1911
• Smith & Wesson
• Walther
• CZ

The bottom line is, Glocks are great guns and it's awesome that Gaston Glock created such a successful company.

But remember, there are other guns out there and you need to find the gun that works best for you. It might be a Glock and it might not be.
