Deconstructing the Training Scars

bad-training

Firearm training helps prevent unnecessary loss of lives. Most gunfights come in close, fast, and hot. Training for such situations is the next best thing after owning a firearm. Additionally, it is the determining moment between coming out alive or becoming the victim.

Each confrontation ends up in favor of the most skilled individual unless the least skilled individual is very lucky. However, every survivor of an armed encounter will advise you that depending solely on good luck is not a good idea.

In most cases, a confrontation between a well-trained and an untrained individual will end in favor of the highly skilled gun owner. But what if you trained on wrong tactics or misunderstood a concept?

More than half of firearm owners say they have received professional firearm training. Others, especially those who learned to use firearms at a young age, may have trained from peers, family, and friends.

Receiving such training may be functional for many gun owners. However, it's difficult to ascertain that the peer/friend firearm instructor equipped you with the right firearm skills. Being trained using wrong tactics could make bad practices permanent.  Can you see all the wrong issues with the cover picture?  How many do you see?  This image make me cringe with all that can go wrong... including hurting the shooter just by oulling the trigger! (see the end of this article for some tips)

Undertaking self-training or being trained by peers, family, and friends puts you at risk of picking up "training scars." These are a set of bad practices based on insufficient, incomplete, or wrong information. Such practices are prevalent in peer, lay, or substandard firearm training.

Peer trainers may have misunderstood a concept or picked it from unreliable sources. Additionally, they could become worse at a certain skill over time, while still passing it along with each subsequent training. Every firearm student who goes through their training program packs a set of life-threatening malpractices that may end up costing lives.

The same case applies to self-training. A self-trained individual could misunderstand a concept, without anybody to correct them. Firearm owners who also train with unqualified and unapproved trainers run the risk of engraining bad practices into the ‘muscle memory’.

That's why at Defensive Tactical Training, we have lifetime firearm instructors who only teach proven, scientifically-backed self-defense methods. Our courses are approved by reputable gun training research institutions and approved by the NRA and USCCA.

If you picked up a bad habit or "Training Scar" from peer/friend-training, self-training, or an unapproved trainer, you are at risk of causing unnecessary deaths. You also have a higher chance of putting yourself in mortal danger when facing a threat.

The biggest problem is that you cannot tell how effective your training is until you attend a professional firearm training program. At Defensive Tactical Training, we will help you deconstruct every possible "training scar" you might have unknowingly picked along the way. By receiving the approved training, you will also help your friends and family correct some of the bad practices that are very common in armature firearm training.

The longer you keep those training scars, you're brooding over an unintended homicide or even your own demise. The longer you train using a wrongful, incomplete, or misunderstood tactic, the longer you're preparing to cause unnecessary death.

Although peer and self-training may be cheaper and convenient, it may be costly in terms of human life and the defense attorney fees. Besides, you can still find an affordable and convenient training program with Defensive Tactical Training.
